Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) today won the North–Zone Inter University Hockey Championship-2019. JMI defeated Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak in final league match played at TTI Ground, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
JMI won the final league match by 1-0. The sole goal was scored by JMI’s Captain Amit Kumar through penalty corner. Although JMI dominated the game and got 10 penalty corners and one penalty stroke but could not convert them into more goals.
On the basis of the points secured in the league matches, Kurukshetra University has been declared Runners-up.
Overall, JMI scored 9 points followed by Kurukshetra University with 6 points and MDU with 3 points in the league matches. Lovely Professional University, Phagwada was the fourth team in the semi final league and could not score any point during the matches.
JMI maintained its winning spree since the beginning. Maximum 7 goals were scored by JMI in a match during the league.
Winners and runners-up were given prizes at an impressive function in the compound by the JMI Registrar, Mr. A.P. Siddiqui (IPS).
A total of 35 universities participated in the tournament that was played at three grounds of the university
The tournament was organized with the active supporter of Delhi Hockey Association (DHA).
