Jamia organizes Mexico Day

Delivering a Lecture on “The Land that is Mexico”, H.E. Melba Pria, Ambassador of Mexico to India said that there were opportunities for academic, cultural and economic cooperation between India and Mexico. She talked about Mexico’s history, culture, Independence from Spain (1821), Mexican Revolution (1910-1929), Biodiversity, Economy and bi-lateral opportunities with India and where both the countries stood in the contemporary world.

Earlier, inaugurating a Photo Exhibition of Mexico Art titled “Octavia Paz in India: A Photo-Poetry Dialogue” the Ambassador spoke about the re-creation of Octavia Paz’s poetry in visuals. In 1962, Octavia Paz was the Ambassador to India. The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to him in 1990.Earlier, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI welcomed the H.E. Melba Pria to the University and hoped that Jamia would be able to strengthen its existing academic collaboration with Mexican universities through MoUs. She spoke about common interests that Mexico and India shared.

The programme was coordinated by the Centre for European and Latin American Studies, JMI. The students of the Centre celebrated Mexico Day with lots of enthusiasm and vigour.
