Jamia Millia Islamia and Jamia Hamdard University join hands to synergize their competencies in the field of medical science

The Valedictory Function of the 95th Foundation Day Celebrations brought the curtain down on the three-day Talimi Mela that attracted thousands of visitors from the university and its neighbourhood community. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia and Jamia Hamdard University gave it a fitting finale. The MoU was signed by the respective Registrars of both the university.The signed MoU opens up a plethora of opportunities for both the institutions to synergize their competencies in the field of medical science.

Jamia Hamdard University will admit and provide medical facilities to indoor medical patients referred by the Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia on CGHS rates. It will also provide healthcare facilities to all employees of Jamia Millia Islamia. The medical students from Jamia Hamdard University would benefit from the specializations of the Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia. This collaboration would cover both BDS and MDS Programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function, Dr. G.N. Qazi hoped that the two sister institutions, through the collaboration, would embark on the path of excellence and facilitate each others’ growth. He hoped that the both the universities would become role models for the youth  in the country even as Jamia Millia Islamia keeps  achieving new heights through its efforts towards internationalization.

Addressing the audience, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia promised to expand the scale of Talimi Mela in the coming years.   Talimi Mela-2015 was a huge hit both with the students and community in the neighbourhood. He spoke of the necessity to uphold Jamia’s secular tradition. The promotion of Urdu language should be prioritized and we should feel proud to talk in our mother tongue, he said. He hoped that sometime in near future JMI would set up its own medical college. Under the concept of Meta University, he felt,  Jamia Millia Islamia,  Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Hamdard could come together and become leaders in some areas of learning. He was very confident that in another five years when Jamia would celebrate one hundred years of its existence it will have emerged as a major research force in the country. He elaborated on the efforts undertaken by the University to introduce new courses in Solar Energy, Nanotechnology and Disaster Management.

Praising the efforts of the organizers of the Talimi Mela, Prof. Talat Ahmad congratulated Prof. Sadre Alam, Chairman of the 95th Foundation Day Committee and Prof. Tasneem Meenai, Dean Students’ Welfare and their dedicated team members and volunteers for working tirelessly to make Talimi Mela-2015 hugely successful.
