HRD Ministry Hikes Fees for NITs and IISERs

 Here comes the big news for the aspiring students of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes for Science Education and Research (IISERs). After the recent hiked fees for IITs from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakh per year by HRD ministry.  The ministry has now also approved the proposal for the hike in fess for National Institutes of Technology (NIT) and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) with an aim providing more resources to these institutions and introduction to the new levels of high quality education.

According to the decision made by the HRD ministry the hike of the fees is from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh per annum in all the 31 NITs of the country and the hike of fees for IISER is from Rs 15,000 per semester to Rs 25,000 per semester.

This hike in the fees has been effected for the new students who get admission starting this year and not for those who are already studying.In this approved proposal the fee hike is applicable only to students admitted under the general category in case of NITs. The government has decided to waive the annual fees in full for SC/ST students and those who are differently-abled or from economically weaker sections.

Also students from families with an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh will also study in the NITs for free. But those belonging to families with annual income of less than Rs 5 lakh will be entitled to a waiver of two-thirds of the fee irrespective of their category.
