New Delhi, Wednesday: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to newly-elected Delhi University Students Union President Rocky Tusheed after a plea by ABVP’s DUSU Presidential Candidate Rajat Choudhry stating that the Rocky Tusheed should not have contested due to an FIR against him.
In his plea, Choudhry said that NSUI’s Tusheed has an FIR against him in 2014 for attempted murder and criminal trespassing. Reacting to the news, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeted: “Court issues notice to Rocky Tusheed, just elected DUSU President, questioning his election on ground of criminal antecedents. #KnowYourLegacy”.
Delhi University authorities had earlier rejected the nomination papers of the NSUI presidential candidate Rocky Tusheed, who contested after the intervention of the Delhi High Court and won with a big margin.
In response over the issue, NSUI said in a press statement saying, instead of taking the final DUSU result in good stride, the ABVP, is trying to misuse the judiciary to subvert the democratic mandate given by DU students. Defeated candidate Choudhary went to the Delhi High Court complaining against Rocky on basis of a false FIR which was registered by the BJP government in August 2014 against a group of students, during the 2014 DUSU elections. However, within a month, the complainant gave an undertaking in court, wherein he desired to withdraw the case against Rocky. This further proves that the said FIR was a frivolous one and till date.
