Guide to admission in M.A. Mass Communication in Jamia Millia Islamia

AJK Mass Communication Research Centre is one of the best film schools in India. It is a part of the Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. This Centre was established by Anwar Jamal Kidwai who was also a Vice-Chancellor of the University.

AJK MCRC offers various Masters, P.G Diploma, and certificate programs. Among all the courses offered, MA Mass Communication has its own charisma and aura. The 2-year program aspires to present young and creative talents to the industry. This course has been ranked no. 1 in the Asian continent and that’s one of the reasons why this centre is regarded as one of the best film schools in the country.

Overview of the course

The main aim of introducing this course was to give this world some highly- creative filmmakers. With time, the course has not just blessed the industry with some amazing filmmakers but has successfully launched various photographers, Radio producers, screenwriters, and even certain actors. MA Mass Communication is a 2-year masters program divided into 4 semesters. The course requires a lot of practical and creative work.

The faculty here is very supportive and the course has been designed in a way that a student of MCRC can never fail the industry. They teach you screenwriting, radio production, Television production, Cinematography, Digital media, etc.

Who can apply?

Students of any field who have completed their graduation with more than 50% merit are eligible for this course.

How to apply?

After filling the application form, the candidate is required to appear for an entrance exam. If the entrance exam is cleared, candidates are called for an interview. The entrance and the interview marks are divided as follows:

Entrance – 200 marks

Interview (45) + Portfolio (55) = 100 marks

The entrance exam is divided into two sections, the first part consists of 20 MCQs related to the fields of Cinema, Photography, etc. The other portion of the paper is subjective which carries 180 marks. It has various sub-sections where a candidate is expected to write short stories, essays, scripts, articles, etc.

It should be noted that the paper is usually lengthy as you get only 2 hours to complete it. Candidates who successfully qualify the written exam are called for the interview. During the interview, candidates are expected to bring their portfolio. The portfolio should comprise all the internships, photography, volunteering, etc done by the candidate. A final merit list is made according to which the admission is given.

Admission and reservations

Almost 180-200 candidates are selected from the written exam to appear for the interview session. The course has a total of 56 seats out of which 50% are reserved for the general category.

Other reservations are as follows:

Muslims: 30%

Muslim Women: 10%

Muslim OBCs and STs: 10%

Persons with Disabilities: 5%

Entrance exam schedule for 2020

The written entrance exam will be held on 1/06/2020 from 14:00 – 17:00. The names of students called for the interview will be released on the JMI website on 25/06/2020. The interview is expected to take place on 28/06/2020, and the final result will be declared between 07/07/2020 to 12/07/2020.

Fee structure

The fee for the first year is INR 77,110/- and 64,710/- for the second year. You are expected to pay the complete amount collectively, they do not let you pay in installments.
