Foundation laid for a new Hall of residence at AMU

ALIGARH October 20:
Distinguished AMU alumnus Mr. Nadeem Akhtar Tarin and the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah jointly laid the foundation stone of a new Hall of residence for one thousand boys, Riyadh Hall, at a University land in Patwari Ka Nagla locality, which is funded by the members of the AMU Alumni Association, Riyadh, KSA.

Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony, Mr. Nadeem Tarin said that he wished that new Halls of residence to accommodate about 8000 boys and girls were ready by the year 2020 when AMU would be celebrating its centenary. He stressed need for establishing new departments of study in the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology which provided market oriented courses and programmes.

Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that Mr. Tarin was the first student in the history of AMU to provide funds for the construction of Nadeem Tarin Hall. He acknowledged that Mr. Tarin had also donated for the Engineering College expansion.

Lt. Gen. Shah said that the University would soon start courses in Textile Engineering and Biomedical Engineering in the University and efforts were being made to strengthen the infrastructural foundation of the University.

University Engineer, Prof. Anwar Khursheed informed that the construction of the new Riyadh Hall will be expedited and donor’s stones will be put at each room acknowledging their contributions. He appreciated the philanthropic gesture by the members of the AMU Alumni Association, Riyadh.

On this occasion, a Smart Classroom, funded by Prof. Habib A Zuberi, an alumnus and Professor Emeritus of Michigan University, USA, was inaugurated in the Department of Economics. Addressing on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah urged the students to use Laptop or Smart Tablets instead of Smart Phones to make better use of internet oriented knowledge banks. He said that he wished to establish at least one Smart Classroom in each and every department.

Prof. Nisar Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Economics proposed a vote of thanks.

The Vice Chancellor, along with several alumni, inaugurated the Centre of Advance Research in Electrified Transformation (CARET), which is the first such centre in the country supported by Maruti and Mahindra & Mahindra, dedicated to work for hybrid electrical vehicles and development of solar energy devices. Dr. Saad Alam of Department of Electrical Engineering highlighted the activities of the Centre.

The group of alumni also visited the Dr. Ambedkar Annexe and under construction building of Dawakhana Tibbiya College. The group also visited the Bridge Course Centre and the Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery.
