Jamia Millia Islamia is at the vanguard of Nanotechnology research in India. This information was shared by Professor Mushahid Hussain, former head of Jamia’s Nanotechnology Department and currently the Vice Chancellor of Rohilkhand University.

Speaking on the occasion of ‘A Jamia Campus across the Sea’,the annual feat of Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association (JMIAA) held in Riyadh recently, Professor Hussain asserted that Jamia was the first University in India to establish a nanotechnology research center. The graduates of this center have helped establish and run nanotechnology research centers in Saudi Arabia, especially the one at Jeddah’s King Abdul Aziz University. Jamia has in the past hosted the world conference on nanotechnology. The university has been working closely with India’s premier defense research organization(DRDO).

Nanoscience and nanotechnology are the study and application of extremely small things and can be used across all the other science fields, such as chemistry, biology, physics, materials science, and engineering. Nanotechnology is being used in developing countries to help treat diseases and prevent health issues. The umbrella term for this kind of nanotechnology is Nanomedicine.
Nanotechnology is also being applied to or developed for application to a variety of industrial and purification processes. In industry, applications may include construction materials and military goods.
