Eves miss out history on the biggest stage

Indian women today missed out on creating history when they were defeated by England by a slender margin of 9 runs at Lord’s in London.Though Poonam Raut,Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy did fight chasing 229, but in the end Shrubsole proved too much for all them who took 6-46 in her 9.4 overs.

Poonam Raut topscored for India with 115 ball 86 and till the time she and Harman and later on Veda were on crease, India looked like they were on a course of victory but the experience of the English proved too much for them. This is India’s second defeat in the finals of the world cup. Last defeat came back in 2005.

Aneya Shrubsole was declared the player of the match and England’s Tammy Beaumont was declared the player of the tournament.Earlier in the day, England won the toss and chose to bat first in the all important final. Jhulan Goswami picked up 3-23 and Poonam Yadav picked up 2-36 to help India restrict the host to a modest 228/7. Natalie Sciver top scored with a 68 ball 51. Wicket Keeper Batswoman Sarah Taylor also contributed with an able 45 of 62 balls.
