DU admissions 2018: Trials for sports quota to commence from today

Sports quota trials for 39 games for admission to undergraduate courses will commence from 29th June Friday. There is provision in all colleges of the University of Delhi to admit up to 5% students through the sports and extra curricular activities quota abbreviated as ECA.

The number of students applied for sports quota is 12,423. The first list of selected candidates will be announced on July 9. The director of DU’s sports council, Anil Kumar Kalkal mentioned that “There are 1,700 seats in all colleges for sports quota.”

As per norms, candidates should reach 30 minutes before the trials in playing gear. The trials will start at 7 am for some games. The merit list will be announced on 6th July followed by verification of documents and approval of admissions will be done from 6th to 9th July. Anil Kalkal also said that colleges would bring out three admission lists if the seats remain vacant.

Colleges will give 60 % weightage to the trials and 40% to the certificates. The minimum marks required in the trials are 30. There is provision of direct admission for students who have represented India at international level. Moreover, the state level participants certificates will not be accepted unless the candidate is a rank-holder in that game.

The distribution of marks is hierarchical based upon the ranks achieved by the candidates.16 marks will be given to the first position, 14 to the second and 12 to the third in sports competition conducted by State Sports Association, State Directorate of education and school boards as per University rules.

The colleges finished conducting preliminary trials for admission under the ECA quota. Nearly 17,000 students had applied for the ECA quota for round 1000 seats across colleges.
