DU admissions 2018: The over-hyped first cutoff likely to be declared today

There are innumerable memes created on DU admissions every year yet it is one of the most challenging tasks to get admission in India’s seventh ranked university. It is expected that there will be a huge rise in cutoffs this year. However, the application and registration data provided to them by the university is still not analyzed but the first cutoff is likely to be declared on Monday night.

It is already been declared that there will be only five cutoff lists this year. Moreover, the vacant seats will be filled during centralized counseling after the declaration of the fifth list.

The university has also decided to share the cutoffs with Principals, allowing them to make changes to their respective lists after analyzing the trends. At Kirori Mal College’s officials claimed that data were yet to be shared as many colleges hadn’t released a tentative list due to Eid holiday. The colleges have till 6pm on Monday to assess the data.

An official member of Delhi University said that “Most colleges come out with very high cutoffs in the first list as they want to assess the demand for their courses. By the second list, however, the cutoffs are lowered, albeit marginally. This is done to avoid over-admission and to get the best of the lot. But usually, subjects like English and BA programme will have higher cutoffs as the number of applications is high.”

St. Stephen’s college’s cutoff released on June 11 is also taking into consideration by other colleges. The number of aspirants of English Honors is 1, 26,347 and BA Programme is 1, 05,818. Stephen’s, a Christian minority institute generally has a distinct procedure for admission and also announces its cutoffs earlier than others.
