DU Admissions 2018: 210 contenders for each seat of Sociology at Delhi University

Every sociology(honours) applicant at Delhi University will have to compete with 209 others to get one of the 365 desirable seats in nine distinct colleges. Journalism has almost the same ratio of applicants, while in geography the tally is 181 candidates for each of the 417 seats. The situation is slightly better for psychology with 176 candidates fighting for every single seat, an improvement from last year’s ratio which was 220 students per seat.

Following the trend, English (honours) once again has course has seen the highest number of candidates with  1,26,327 aspirants, a slightly less than last year which was 1,28,842. Similarly, BA Programme’s tally has declined by 34,801 compared to last year, i.e 1,05,818 (2018) and 1,40,619 (2017).

A senior DU official who is member of the admission committee mentioned that “Every year, we see the highest number of applications in English and BA Programme as everybody, irrespective of their Class XII stream, can apply in both these courses.” Some other trending courses like economics and psychology generally see high cutoffs as the number of seats are limited unlike English and BA Programme, the DU official added.

As usual, the competition in Science will also be tough as 63 candidates struggling for each Physics seat while 78 for each Chemistry seat. Moreover, the actual number of registrations will possibly be lesser as compared to 2017, as DU allowed candidates to submit new forms in case of any mistake in the previous form.
