DDLJ – A Love Story worth Remembering

“Bade-Bade sheheron mein aisi chotti-chotti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita”. Every individual might have used this famous dialogue in his/her life at some point of time. This movie Dil Waale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, is full-fledged with these kinds of dialogues. This movie, apparently called DDLJ has been successful in creating and maintaining an era of love in our lives.
“One Film, One Theatre and One Thousand Weeks”. It may sound a bit amazing but it is an interesting fact that this movie has completed 1000 weeks of its release in a theatre. This movie, released on 19th October, 1995 has created history in the Maratha Mandir Cinema Hall in Mumbai where this movie has been telecasted for a continuous period of 1000 weeks. DDLJ has become the first movie in the world to complete around 20 years in one theatre. In the Maratha Cinema Hall, there is daily one show of this movie.
It is worth noting that it has beaten the records of Mughal-e-Azam and Sholay which had been telecasted for 6 years and 5 years respectively in this theatre. But DDLJ is far beyond them as it has the honor of completing 19 years which is equivalent to completing a generation.
The Maratha Mandir Theatre was awarded a trophy by Yash Chopra himself, when the movie had completed 500 weeks. That time, it was the dream of Mr. Chopra to continue it for the next 500 weeks. Feels like his dream has come true. This movie will still continue its telecast further in this theatre, neglecting the rumors which said that the movie could now be removed. The movie is also in the process of getting its name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
All these facts are enough to show the eternity and sanity of the movie and the true love it depicts. This movie can positively be seen as a reflector of a variety of emotions- love, culture, traditions, sacrifices and a lot more. The characters of Raj and Simran, played by Shahrukh Khan and Kajol Devgan, became a style icon of many of that time.
Congratulations to the team for the grand success of the movie.
