If you are a fan of limited or miniseries like me then you should go for this one. Although the reviews aren’t that good about the show of how misleading it is or how poor the script is. But I personally enjoyed my time with this one. This show is for the ones who enjoy drama. I found it obvious and predictable at times but there is no harm to give it a try. This is a one-time watch series and falls into the category of psychological thriller, and legal drama. As it is a limited series so the number of episodes is 6 only, each of duration around 40 to 45 minutes. [Movie Review] Pink: The Importance of the Word ‘No’

Director        :           Anniruddha Roy Chowdhury
Writer            :           Ritesh Shah, Shoojit Sircar
Cast                :
Taapsee Pannu (Minal Arora)
Kirti Kulhari (Falak Ali)
Andrea Tariang (Andrea)
Amitabh Bachchan (Deepak Sehgal)

With the numerous films on women, feminism and several other issues and violence against women, finally there’s a film that reaches to the importance of a two letter word, ‘No’. The realist women oriented film that has successfully reached the hearts of millions of Indians, and probably the only film on women that has made it big in the Hindi Film Fraternity. The film not only repeatedly focuses on how a woman’s consent is never taken into consideration even for the smallest of things. However, regardless if a woman is independent, a child, a working woman, married, or a senior citizen, her consent unfortunately never does matter anyway. So, why was this film so important in the Film Industry today? Was it only because it’s high time that we need to start respecting a women’s consent, regardless of who she is and where she comes from; or was it because it was just another film added to the Literatures of Women or Subaltern Films? I’m sure you, as an audience and a viewer knows better.

The name of the film was named Pink, not because it stereotypically represents a woman or womanhood. It was named Pink because ‘Pink’, according to various urban dictionaries is defined as a reference to forced and often cruel or threat based occupation of a vagina by an unwelcome penis. This film not only bought up issues like molestation, rape, and the character of a woman regardless of the crime, but also favoured the male chauvinistic environment and society that we live in. The chauvinism or feminism was not glorified but reported perfectly well with respect to the harsh reality that women face every day.

For the fact that there are women in both villages and cities who face assault, violence, mental and sexual torture every single day, Pink claims that women aren’t safe anywhere and nevertheless, even when they are independent working women. The film also addresses events and issues when a woman actually dares to stand up for herself, but is only responded with rape threats and death threats. As much as films are meant to be a fantastical escape from reality for people, ‘Pink’ addresses issues that does not sugar-coat reality but finally does justice to the matters addressed, leaving the audience pondering over the importance and the meaning of the word ‘No’.

There are several minute elements that the cast of ‘Pink’ has portrayed in which few of them include the training mask of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and the tattoo of the birds flying on Ms. Taapsee Pannu’s chest. The involvement of a North East girl, Ms. Andrea Tariang in the film was also important and extremely well thought of and written due to the varied racism against them. The Muslim girl who was among the three girls in the film, namely Ms. Kirti Kulhari’s character was also brilliantly written and portrays the sect of women who are most oppressed through religion and culture in the society. There was no unnecessary drama, music or dialogue. Every dialogue impacted the film equitably.

The cinematography was commendable and the script was written brilliantly, keeping in mind the reality and the message that aimed at sending to the audience. However, in the climax when the audience was expecting a fight back from Ms. Taapsee Pannu’s side, that’s exactly when the tables had turned and it moreover blew in as a reminder that the Law will take care, maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually. Regardless of which, that was not the point of the film. The point of the film was the importance of the word ‘No’ from a woman’s mouth. The director also did a great job by displaying the actual act of what exactly happened that night from which all the events were chained, at the conclusion of the film when the credits were being exhibited. Without that, the film was merely a remnant and hence enhanced the film experience.

Overall, the film was brilliantly made and perfectly named. The actors did a brilliant job especially Mr. Amitabh Bachchan who was also featured in a campaign by Blush Originals, namely #AbSamjhaauthaNahi. The film focussed on issues, did not glorify them, reported reality and brilliantly questioned everybody watching. It not only motivated women but also inspired them to be assertive in their decision making skills. The women in the film were bold and brae and did not back out when their lives were threatened and their bodies and characters were humiliated in the court. That is exactly why ‘Pink’ is a must watch, with anybody, alone, family, romantic partners or even friends.

[Movie Review] Akira: A Slap of Reality

Director:       A.R. Murgadoss
Writer:          A.R. Murgadoss
Cast:               Sonakshi Sinha, Konkana Sen Sharma, Anurag Kashyap

As much as Sonakshi Sinha has too many people who think she cannot act or perform in films, Akira was more of a breakthrough in her career. It’s not a feminist film as the trailer directed the viewers towards thinking so. However, it certainly is one of the best films directed by Mr. Murgadoss after Ghajini, Jai Ho, and a repertoire of Tamil and Telugu films, Akira represent or rather reports the levels of corruption in the different aspects of the society.

Akira not only shows a very different perspective of individuals in the society who try to identify the loopholes in the governance of the country but also work towards making things right. The film deals with various social issues in the society, right from acid attacks and the other every day violence against women to the levels of degeneration in the political and legal population of the country. The four main female protagonists chosen in the film are the ones that are marginalized from the Indian population and society on various aspects in reality. A girl who has brilliant self defence skills with a criminal record and fighting abilities that usually boys acquire to impress women; a mentally ill transgender who has better rationalizing skills than most of us; an abused sex worker who fights against crime; and a pregnant police officer who symbolizes justice and truth; four women in the film who are unlikely to make a change in the society, go ahead and do make one as shown in the film. That’s something that was brilliantly written and performed by the actors.
akiraOn the other hand, the professions that are looked up to in the society like, a police officer, a priest, the Commissioner of Police, a patriarchal daughter-in-law and a psychiatrist have been shown as villainous in the film which not only breaks the ridiculous stereotypes regarding these professions and how men are superior in patriarchal communities, but also shows the audience a brand new perspective on how the society actually functions. The first half of the film was intriguing and certainly left everyone at the edge of their seats, waiting impetuously for what would happen in the second half.

However, as in the trailer, the film portrayed a woman’s self defence abilities like in Mardaani where it’s a woman’s fight against male chauvinism and patriarchy. But to our surprise, Akira was much more than a fight against male dominance and justice. The second half of the film is a little stretchy but the climax is twisting and certainly unpredictable. Just when the audience is expecting the film to end with good and justice, it’s right then when reality strikes in and Murgadoss explains the point of the whole film in a gist where a woman, no matter how strong or influential is always either forced or is willing to sacrifice herself for her environment.

Unfortunately, the ticket seemed to be only Rs. 160 in Inox which in itself remarks a lot about our society. Films like ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Housefull 3’ and other ridiculously pointless and nonsensical films that make 100 crores in a weekend also declares the amount of debris and waste that fills the brains and minds of the audience which allows them to enjoy this garbage every day. So why don’t we have more films like ‘Mardaani’ or ‘Lajja’ or ‘Gulaab Gang’ despite having the best actors in the Hindi Film Fraternity? It’s probably because films still continue to remain an escape from reality only for the men I suppose. Akira was a brilliantly written and executed film with the performance of the actors, cinematographers, writers and the director and it isn’t just a one-time watch film. The film is best enjoyed with family and parents especially who must be educated about the position of women and other marginalized citizens in the society. Regardless, so would you go watch Akira and rate it good or would you still stick to rubbish films containing comic porn or irrelevant family drama?

Students, activists and general public gathered in Lahore to protest against the cold blooded Murder of Pakistani Social media queen Qandeel Baloch. The protest was against the patriarchal suppression of women in Pakistan. Qandeel was murdered in the name of honour of the family by her own brother, as her brother confessed he drugged her and then strangled her to the death . The protesters also pointed out that the conspiracy of Qandeel’s murder was was planned out by Mulana Qavi and how misogynistic thinking of general public makes a care free woman a villain and a victim at the same time.

Sona Mohapatra, Crushing Salman Fans over obscene tweets

Via Sona Mohapatra official Fb page

Nth such message coming in for the 4th day in a row & these just from one guy amongst the ‘N’ more like them. Nothing but the simple outcome of celebrating people like Salman Khan in the public domain, only encourages the worst in society.
Bad behaviour has to be accounted for. Some PR driven branded charity cannot be the exit hatch. Not all of us are the dumb fools who have zero understanding of such strategic self serving branding exercises. A sorry or acknowledgement of a mistake shouldn’t be so difficult to start with. So difficult for your clan to put in a word to your digital agency to stop the bully Bhai Bhakts from vomiting incessantly? No. That would take away your ‘hero halo’. Instead this man attends press conferences in a film awards event abroad ( even there making everyone wait while he takes his time reaching there I hear) & keeps up with his swag & finally updates his Twitter timeline with a promo tweet for another film. ‘Let daddy say sorry. I don’t have to. I’m privileged, have done this & worse many times before & on top of that the ‘masses’ thronging the theatres support me, my peers don’t tell me anything ..who cares about setting the right example to my stupid adoring mob? ‘ (this is me decoding his smirking, contemptuous expression & one liners since)
I do not need any ones sympathy let me assure you. I am super capable of handling this both emotionally & physically.
The reason why I share this is to put a spotlight on yet another new age phenomena – CYBER bullying, armies of trolls (many employed & paid by digital agencies of the rich & powerful) who try & scare individuals, be it men or women.
Being the latter gender, a woman, with a voice, of course helps ignite the worse fires within our deeply rooted misogynistic, patriarchal society. The reason why I share this is also because I know that, not everyone is as blessed as me. Not everyone has a support system & family such as mine. Not everyone has a partner who is willing to weather a storm & be rock solid through the stress. I somewhere hope that this incident serves as some kind of eye-opener to us. To help put some checks & measures in place to weed out the rubbish amongst us. Facebook has a profanity filter which is switched ON for me which automatically blocks out the vulgarity. Twitter doesn’t. Blocking everyone is not physically possible since the numbers go beyond 1000’s.
All this is minor in comparison to the bigger picture here.
Why are we so tolerant of the bad boys of our world? Boys who refuse to grow up. Boys who encourage other boys to follow in their foot steps & carry their flag high.
That apart, I share this because I believe in fairness. I believe in the good people fighting & supporting the good fight, believe it or not, I also believe in the system. I believe in India above all. I do think that we are in a path of change & BIG change in the coming years. This change will be brought about by men & women alike.
All that thing to look forward this week.
The season finale of Game Of Thrones…
Dynares Targareyn, Brienne of Tarth, Olenna Redwyne, Sansa & Arya Stark, Margaerry Tyrell & O yes & now Asha Greyjoy..
Woo Hoo!
Have a great weekend you all.

Cuts On Freedom Of Speech and Expression? – Udta Punjab

Cuts On Freedom Of Speech and Expression? – Udta Punjab

Udta Punjab (English: Punjab on a High) is an upcoming Indian crime thriller film based on drugs written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey. Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Films, it features Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles.

As we all know The Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has now held back the film’s certification, demanding 89 cuts in total and removal of any references to the state of Punjab, Name of a drug, politics or elections, in general.

“Like why dude? Why no references? What is the need to cut down the society’s mirror reality from a movie?”

Initially CBFC cited 40 cuts in the film, owing to explicit language and drug consumption.
Following this, Phantom Films approached the tribunal with the hope that the cuts won’t be recommended by giving an ‘A’ certificate to the film.
The revising committee wasn’t satisfied. So, they went one step further and asked for the use of ‘Punjab’ in the title to be removed and recommended 89 cuts.

“Wait what? You CBFC guys can’t even handle ‘A’ rated film?
Go ahead. Remove Punjab from Udta Punjab. Yeah, then nobody will ever come to know which state is shown in the film. CBFC is surely Genius.”

They also want the film to be set in a fictional land rather than a real state. Reportedly, Pahlaj Nihalani has a problem with the “portrayal of reality in the film.”

“Why does every chairman of CBFC is always all set impose his own sensibilities on movies made by other people at the cost of cutting down Freedom Of Speech and Expression with their big scissors?”

A report submitted to Arun Jaitley, the Minister for Information & Broadcasting, on April 26, recommends that the “CBFC should only be a film certification body whose scope should be restricted to categorizing the suitability of the film to audience groups on the basis of age and maturity.”
And According to the Benegal report, CBFC can only refuse certification on two counts.
I) First, when parts of the film are “against the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality, or involves defamation or contempt of court or is likely to incite the commission of any offence”.
II) Second, when the film crosses the ceiling of the most stringent rating.

“Atleast Benegal committee report is sensible. So it clearly indicates – CBFC is terrible at their jobs. Maybe the government should do a better job in appointing them”

Merely 9 months away from the Assembly Elections the release of Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab is stuck in political controversy. Critics say Udta Punjab, which is based on Punjab’s crucial drug abuse problem and since this drug menace is being used by opposition parties in their campaign against the Punjab’s ruling party the Shrimoni Akali Dal, causing an issue for ruling party. Akali Dal is an ally of the BJP at the Centre and in the state.

“Okay, so did I say government should do a better job at appointing CBFC officials? Well, it looks like Government already did their job good. CBFC officials are already all set to work in favor of government by cutting down our basic right of Freedom Of Speech and Expression by their big official scissors”

Its not only you and me who is upset at the act of CBFC. The Bollywood and other political parties are also raising hands in support of #udtapunjab

— Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) June 7, 2016

• Sunil Jakhar, Congress MLA and a former leader of opposition says, “This is the harsh reality of the state as well as the country. The Prime Minister himself referred to this problem in his weekly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat‘. You cannot hide the truth.” Jakhar adds that instead of coming down hard on the movie makers, the government should come down hard on the drug dealers in Punjab.

• Our delhi government The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) says the Akalis do not want to be exposed and therefore, they are insisting on the large number of cuts and the change of the title of the movie. “This is just an attempt by the Akalis to browbeat the artists who are trying to convey a message regarding the drugs problem of Punjab. Rather than stopping the movie from being screened they should realise that it will help percolate the message of fight against drugs. The state is in a bad position not only with respect to drugs but on all fronts, so impeding the release of a movie is not going to help the party in power,” says Sukhpal Khaira, AAP leader.

CBFC, even the stubborn political parties seems to understand that you CBFC and the ruling party is all set impose your own sensibilities in a movie portraying the mirror reality of your state.
It Our humble is request, Government officials if you really wanna do something for your state then fix the issue of drug menace. Hiding down the harsh reality by imposing cuts on a movie will only be counted as your act cowardliness ”

Now the makers of Udta Punjab are all set to move the Bombay High Court against CBFC’s verdict on Udta Punjab. Phantom and Balaji Motion Pictures (co-producers on the film) have reportedly decided to fight for the release, even at the risk of it being postponed, at the chance Udta Punjab will not see its initial release of 17 June.
“We just hope Bombay High Court gives verdict in favor of Udta Punjab protecting our Freedom Of Speech and Expression and set an example for CBFC and Government”

“Once a year go someplace you’ve never been before” -DALAI LAMA

No wonder, Manipur is being described as “the Switzerland of India” by Lord Irwin or as “the Land of Jewels” by Jawaharlal Nehru. Sitting pretty between Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram, and bordering Myanmar at the eastern side with its distinctive identity and vibrant cultures, Manipur is the centre of the seven sisters and one brother of the North-East India. The undulating state of Manipur is bestowed with its pleasant sub-tropical climate through out the year. And if one is a nature lover, Manipur is the dream destination. Here are some few leading tourist destination one should not miss it on your tour to Manipur.

Imphal is the capital of Manipur. Before heading out of town into its great outdoors, one can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Imphal valley. The main attractions of the Imphal city includes the Kangla Fort, the Ima Market and the Polo Ground.A visit to Kangla, the ancient palace of the royals unfolds the proud history of the erstwhile Asiatic countries dating back to 33 A.D. The principle attraction of Manipur has got to be the Loktak Lake located at the Bishnupur district, considered to be one of the largest fresh water bodies in North East India. Also, the only floating National park of India known as “The Keibul Lamjao National Park” is located at an integral part of Loktak lake. This place is the lone habitat of the rarest brow antler deer “The Sangai”. Another place of pride is the Indian National Army (INA) Complex at Moirang. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the National Flag at this spot for the very first time on April 14, 1944.

One of the best ways to enjoy the enchanting scenery of Manipur is to escape to the hilly region which occupies almost 90% of the state total land areas. One should not miss to visit to Shirui Kashong peak in Ukhrul district, which is the home to the most marvelled and rarerest flower “Shirui Lily”. This shade-loving lily has bluish-pink petals and blooms in the month of may-june. Its unique characteristics is that this plant can’t grow in any part of the world besides the Shirui hills

Moving towards the border between the Senapati district of the state and the Nagaland state lies the beautiful and charming Dzuko Valleys. The rare Dzuko Lily is found only in this valley. This place of scenic beauty is an ideal place for trekking and hikking.

Another destination for adventure lovers is to escape to the majestic mountains and awe-inspiring valleys of Tamenglong district. The Bunning meadows located at the western side of Tamei town commands a wonderful view of numbers of small hillocks, glittering brooks, chirping birds, colourful orchids and lilies. The sun rise in Bunning is extra ordinarily beautiful. The mysterious Tharon caves in Tharon village of Tamenglong is another stunning destination. The amazing rock structure of this cave will take your breathe away. The legendary Zeilad Lake in the middle of the dense forest at Makoi is another ideal place for adventure lovers to visit. It is also an ideal place for boating, fishing and romantic outdoor. Next, the Barak River which is the largest river of Manipur is so beautiful that who would believe that such paradise existed in the deep forest untouched by human hands. Along the river Barak there are seven waterfalls in series in close ranges. It is an ideal spot for water lovers for rafting and picnicking.

Manipur has been considered to be the “Gateway to South East Asian” countries through Moreh town under Chandel District. Moreh town, with India’s international border with Myanmar is the only feasible land route for trade between India and Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. One can venture out for shopping at the Tamu town market and get to enjoy the Kabaw valley of Myanmar via Moreh, Manipur.

Last but not the least, it is not easy to verbulate the beauty of the land of Manipur – a land with deep rooted ancient culture, a land honoured to be explored. Once one has visited Manipur, one will agree that what began as a dream lives on as an unforgettable experience.

“Left” naam toh suna hoga, this word have become well known these days, who are leftists? what is communism? maybe you might have an idea about it. maybe you are a leftist who is reading this post.

this is for all the leftists who have been stereotyped by others mostly rightists and neutral people.

Here are 5 THING Leftists are tired of hearing-

It vary from person to person what they want to wear and carry. Yes most of them might wear simple kurtas to show solidarity with the working class by keeping it simple.

but it becomes problematic when it becomes a stereotype. Every leftist has their own personal choice when it comes to attire.

What what what? some say we wear kurtas, some say we wear shorts, what do you want people?

Again! it’s a stereotype created mostly by orthodox right wing (in most cases) because according to them short clothes= immorality.

Chainsmokers!! it’s a lifestyle choice. leftists aren’t chain smokers. yes, some people might smoke a cig or two and some might cough badly if they will see smoking somebody around. it has nothing to do with their ideology

Grow up people!

according to few people China=communist , indian communists=workers for China. Are you serious?

firstly, just because a country calls itself communist it doesn’t become one! For me,calling China communist is like Calling North Korea Democratic!

does it make any sense? No!

second thing, we work for India, we focus on issues of Indian labourers and farmers, etc

4. LEFTISTS do violence- what else is left to do by left? No, Left isn’t violent.

do you think we do violence in the name of religion, regionalism, right?? RIGHT? 😛 You know what I mean? RIGHT ?;)

5. LEFT haven’t done anything for India-

I think you need to read a lot and start it from the freedom struggle to the first general elections of India and till now. Do you know even Bhagat Singh was a marxist?

comrades,if you have heard anybody saying such stuff then give this person! a communist manifesto!

That’s all folks! LAL SALAAM
