CAT 2017: 16 Students Secured More than 99 Percentile in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali

Results of Common Admission Test 2017 (CAT 2017) are out, and as many as 16 students from the tricity of Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula have scored more than 99percentiles in it. CAT, which is conducted by IIMs to admit candidates for their academic programs, was taken by around 2 lakh aspirants this year.CAT is a highly competitive exam therefore only a few who are able to secure more than the minimum cut-off marks in CATgets admission in the most-reputed management colleges after clearing the interview round.

Scoring a 99 percentile in CAT means that one has scored more marks than 99 percent of the candidates appearing in the exam. Around 8500 candidates from the tricity attended the exam on November 26, 2017 and from which 16 have secured more than 99 percentiles. It is really a great news that students from this region are getting attracted towards the exam and also scoring well. Let us know further about the story: –

Pramod Beri Emerges as the Topper

One of the biggest good news for the region is that Pramod Beri, who belongs to Phagwara has scored a perfect 100 percentile in the exam. Those scoring 100 percentiles are All India toppers of the exam, and only 20 students across the country have been able to achieve this feat.

Pramod is a B.Com. final year student at GGDSD college, Sector 32, Chandigarh. About his amazing success, Pramod said,” Guidance is important. Also, mock tests helped me a lot in analyzing and improving my performance.”

Vipul Scores 99.99 Percentile

Another examinee from Chandigarh, Vipul Kukkar, secured 99.99 percentile in the exam, which is the second-best percentile one can get. Vipul is a graduate from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and currently works at firm from Gurgaon.

Another 14 students also managed to score 99 percentiles in the exam. These toppers are Ayush Chauhan (99.95); Rohan Gupta (99.74); Aniket Upadhyay (99.63); Priyam Gupta (99.61); Rishab Goyal (99.60); Raghav Rai Singla (99.54); Ashwin Gupta (99.54); Sophia Dhawan (99.52); Himanshu Rajput (99.45); Anmol Bansal (99.25); Priyam Dixit (99.16); Shashank Saroha (99.10); Arnav Jindal (99.07) and Maanik Jindal (99.04).

However, in the 100th percentile list of CAT 2017, there are two girls this time, with 3 non engineers as well. In CAT 2016, all the 100 percentilers were male engineers.

GD-WAT-PI is the Focus Now

It is important to note that a good CAT score does not guarantee admission in IIMs. Candidates have to appear for WAT-GD-PI process of respective IIMs and perform well in these to get the admission. Hirdesh Madan, who works Hit bullseye center of the region, said,” This time, the trend is very positive as CAT is coming out of the shadow of engineers. Students with non-engineering backgrounds like Science and Commerce have also performed very well in the exam.”

“The top 3 IIMs, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta have cutoffs of more than 99 percentile. While IIMs like Amritsar, Sirmaur and Rohtak have cutoffs around 97.5 percentile. University Business School, which is under PU, has a CAT cutoff of around 90th percentile. Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University is also a very popular choice amongst aspirants as the fees of two-year MBA in this college is below INR 1 lakh,” Madan added.

IIMs have started rolling out their shortlist of candidates for WAT-GD-PI process. They have to fill the form of IIMs and have to appear in the further processes, which are generally conducted in the month of February and March. IIMs take a lot of factors in account while selecting candidates, which include past academic record and work experience, along with their CAT score.

Top B-schools of the country are known for their decent packages. The top IIMs have average packages of around 19-20 lakh. While IIM Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore have average packages of around 14-16 lakhs. Average packages in the top B schools of the country range from 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs.
