Case registered against 3 students of AMU for offending Religious Sentiments

Three students from Aligarh Muslim University were booked presenting a distorted view of religion. On Saturday evening, a religiously offending post was shared on Twitter in which the mentioned three students were tagged. The post presented a distorted view of a religious slogan. The post was shared and condemned widely. Students from the university approached the police and filed an FIR.

Police registered a case under section 295 of Indian Penal Code. The youth is also charged under IT Act.

Bhole Vishwakarma, a writer and photographer settled in New York (according to his Facebook and Twitter account) , initially shared the post.

Strict action should be taken against whosoever is responsible for it,” said Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, the AMU Student Union President. According to him, the post is “gross”. He also mentioned that the 3 students ,against whom the case is filed, are former students of AMU.

“We can confirm their status only after checking the record. As of now, I am not aware whether these students are pursuing courses from the university or have passed out from here.” said Shafey Kidwai, the AMU spokesperson.

The Civil Lines station house officer, Javed Khan said, “A case has been registered against the three persons on the basis of a complaint.”
