ARUNACHAL PRADESH: LAND OF DAWN-LIT-MOUNTAINS

Home to scenic mountains, uncharted passes, lush green forests and beautiful monasteries, Arunachal Pradesh is located in North-east India. One amongst the seven sister states, it is the first in India to welcome the morning sun, hence called “The land of the rising sun” and has a lot to offer in terms of both picturesque beauty and adventure. Arunachal Pradesh is rich in wildlife, flora, fauna and minerals.

This state has recently started gaining acclaim, offering not only peace and relaxation but also sports and action. If you are a nature lover or an adventurer or if you love to travel and explore, Arunachal Pradesh is the best choice for you.

Spreading across an area of 83,573 square kilometres, Arunachal Pradesh has a diverse culture with over 26 major tribes and 110 sub-tribes. More than 100 languages are spoken here including languages belonging to the deeply forested or remote areas of the state. Host to a number of festivals, Arunachal Pradesh is also famous for the ongoing ancient traditions of the various tribes.

The state animal ‘Mithun’ is considered to be sacred and a symbol of wealth while the state bird ‘Great Hornbill’ is an extraordinary bird.

The state is full of exciting and beautiful places to visit, be it hill stations, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks or other sites. Considered among the best are Tawang, Roing, Itanagar, Bomdila, Ziro and Pasighat.

Tawang is situated at a height of 10000 ft. above the mean sea level. It consists of the 400 year old Tawang Monastery which is considered to be one the oldest and largest monasteries in India. Tawang never fails to delight the visitors with its scenic and natural beauty and the pleasant mountains.

Roing

Roing is another important tourist spot of the state. People find themselves relaxing to the lakes and waterfalls of this place. Roing is quite a plain area with a lot of cultivation and farming.

Itanagar

Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh and offers a lot of attractions. The Itanagar Sanctuary, Ita Fort, Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, Indira Gandhi Park, Ganga Lake, Polo Park, Buddhist temples are all situated here.

Bomdila

Not very far from Tawang is Bomdila, situated at a height of 8000ft. above the sea level. The snow-clad mountains, apple orchards and the Bomdila monastery are the main attractions.

Ziro

Ziro is one of the oldest hill stations of Arunachal Pradesh. Located at about 1500 metres above mean sea level, Ziro is rich in biodiversity. The ‘Paddy cum Fish culture’ of Ziro is very famous, practiced by the Apatani tribe.

Pasighat

Pasighat is the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh, established by the British. Situated at a height of 152 metres, it is often called the ‘Gateway to Arunachal Pradesh’.

Apart from these, there are many other places worth visiting in the state like Bhalukpong, Along, which are as mesmerizing as the above mentioned places. River-rafting and trekking are the popular attractions for tourists. Arunachal Pradesh may not be well developed in infrastructure and tourist activities, but this does not erase the fact that the state is full of natural beauty and adventure. Recent attention from the government in setting up railways in the state is a step towards the development of the beautiful state. Hoping to see some more, deserved recognition come its way.
