AMUSU holds All India Media Meet

ALIGARH April 21:

“Social media has become a powerful means not only to arm the people with one of the most potent tools of mass communication but it has also proved its importance to influence newspapers and TV channels”, said Mr. S. M. Khan, Director General, Press Registrar and Registrar of Newspapers of India while addressing at an All India Media Meet-2015 of India organized by the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) at AMU. He was expressing his views on the “Influence of Media on Youth Political Perception”

Mr. Khan, who is also an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University, affirmed that media is the most powerful tool of the mass communication these days and it has also become a medium for lucrative career. He urged the AMU students to pay attention to their studies and take care from being carried away by political upheavals. “They should keep away from politics and concentrate on fructifying Sir Syed’s dreams by making a good career for themselves and bringing laurels to their alma mater”, added Mr Khan.

In his presidential address, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali, urged the Indian media to portray AMU in good light and not run after sensational news making. He said that BBC news have always been sought after by people for their factual content, credibility and unbiased presentation. He said that media in a large democracy like India has a greater role to empower people with credible information.Noted journalist Satish Jacob said that career in media has now become well paid and it attracts people while earlier journalism was seen as a shelter for the jobless people.

Prof. Shafey Kidwai, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication, AMU said that media has gained greater significance and one has to give it due importance while in public dealing.A number of distinguished media personalities including Shams Tahir Khan, Suprata Benerjee and Tanzeem Haider expressed their views on this occasion.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, AMUSU President Abdullah Azzam made a passionate appeal to media to present AMU news with some restraint as educational institutions need to be dealt with care because of their sanctity and academic environment.Vice President, Masoodul Hasan conducted the programme. Media Meet Incharge Ariful Haq proposed a vote of thanks. The guests were also felicitated with a memento.
