AMU’s Cyber Library gets ISO certification

ALIGARH June 26:

The Social Science Cyber Library at Aligarh Muslim University has recently been accredited with the International Standard Organization (ISO) certification.

The Cyber Library, nicknamed as ‘The Cyberary’, is first of its kind in the world which was designed and developed by Prof. Shabahat Husain, former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences with an aim to provide students with an access to the ‘web based e-resources’ available in public domain. The e-resources include e-books, e-journals, in-house publications, web courses, video lectures of eminent scholars, web sites, Data bases, Subject Gateways and a host of software pertaining to the Social Sciences. This cyber library is available for the social scientists not only in AMU but also across the globe. The usage data shows that it has been accessed in 75 countries till date.

The Cyber Library was inaugurated by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee on 27th December 2013. The Cybrary, which finds a description in the Wikipedia has been registered in Open DOAR (Directory of Open Access Repositories) hosted by the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom and ROAR (Registry of Open Access Repositories) hosted by School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, United Kingdom.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has congratulated Prof Shabahat Husain and his team for the “path breaking achievement”.
