AMU Vice Chancellor visits Mirzapur Village with Alumnus from Oman

The Aligarh Muslim University, Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) with the university alumnus from Oman today visited the Mirzapur Village in Aligarh District, which is one of the five villages adopted by the University for inclusive development.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) was in the village to attend a ‘Health Camp’ and a ‘Financial Inclusion Camp’ organized by the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) respectively. These camps are initiatives in the implementation of Vision 2040, a project for the social and economic upliftment of marginalized communities.While addressing the gathering of villagers, AMU students and academics, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) said that the development of villages is an important job but the target cannot be accomplished by the university alone.

 “Social mobilization and awareness generation programmes have been initiated and special camps will continue to be organized to involve villagers in the novel development programme. The most important segment of our developmental programme is concerned with the female education and special efforts will be made to achieve this objective,” said AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (retd).He also said that it is hoped that the Mirzapur residents will cooperate to bring progress and prosperity in their village.

Prof NAK Durrani, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences informed that AMU student volunteers will provide coaching and guidance for the education of children in the village. He lamented that the village’s progress depends on education and the residents of Mirzapur should come forward for a better future.He also pointed out that AMU student volunteers will also work hand in hand with the villagers for providing cleanliness and other amenities.

Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal, JNMC, who was also present on the occasion, urged the villagers to educate their children and take help from the various government schemes available for them. Mr Ameer Ahamad, Trustee, Mannapat Foundation (MF) said that there are plans to establish Information and Vocational training Centres in the Village.Mr Ahamad added that he had reached Aligarh to work for the development of down trodden sections. He further pointed out that villages in his native state of Kerala have changed after people realized the importance of education and started utilizing government schemes meant for them. “If villages in Kerala can progress, changes will also come in Mirzapur,” said Mr Ahamad.He also pointed out that recently the Mannapat Foundation and Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI), AMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for implementing the ‘Vision 2040’ Project aimed at equipping the downtrodden sections of the society and make them self-reliant by imparting training, education and self-employment opportunities. He concluded by saying that the camps taking place today are a part of that MoU.While addressing the villagers, Mr Aqeel ur Rahman, Consultant, SEBI said that the residents of Mirzapur Village will always have a helping hand of AMU to assist them. “But for Progress, the villagers will have to come forward,” he added.

Prof Nafis Ahmad, Dr Najam Khaleeq, Dr Naseem Ahmad Khan, Dr Mohd Tahir and Dr Mohd Arif Khan were also present on the occasion.AMU’s Department of Social Work students, along with students of other departments, volunteered to make these camps successful.Mr Ameen Ahmad, Convener, Short-Evening-Courses, CEC, AMU conducted the programme while the Mirzapur Village Pradhan, Mr Shamshad Ali thanked AMU for taking these initiatives for the villagers.
