AMU VC inaugurates 3 MW Solar PV Power Plant and Department of Electricity’s new block

Aligarh, December 26: 

Professor Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)  inaugurated the 3 MW Solar PV Power Plant, near the Riyadh Hall and the new block of the Department of Electricity in AMU campus.

“AMU is moving towards a complete eco-friendly and a green campus, this 3 MW Solar PV Power Plant and a 1.5 MW Roof-Top is commendable, but we can have another one MW Roof-Top Solar PV Power Plant as there is a lot of space available in the University for further installations.” said Prof Mansoor

“We can have further installations at the new buildings of the University,” added Prof Mansoor.

He pointed that soon all residential halls will be equipped with LED Light Bulbs and tube-lights. Prof Mansoor urged to focus on having more such projects to save University funds which will be used for developmental work.      

Dr Mohd Rihan Alvi (Convener, Green University Project and Member-in-Charge, Department of Electricity) said that today is a historic moment as the civil work and construction of state-of art controlled room has been concluded. “AMU administration under the Vice Chancellor has always been supportive and encouraging for this project,” said Dr Rihan adding that these new plants will bring a drastic reduction in the monthly power requirement of the campus.    

He further said that there is a national solar mission for installation of one Lakh MW of grid connected solar plants by 2022 and through the installation of these plants, AMU is contributing in the national cause. “We are now eligible for Green Campus Certification by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE),” said Dr Alvi.  

Prof Asfar Ali Khan (OSD to the Vice Chancellor), Prof S M Jawaid Akhter (Finance Officer), Prof Mobeen Beg (Member-in-Charge, Building Department), Prof Jamal Ahmad Khan (OSD, Development), Prof M Idrees (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology), S B Pal (Superintendent engineer, DVVNL, Aligarh Division) and Prof Jameel Asghar (Chairperson, Technical Advisory Committee, Electricity Department) were present on the occasion.

Mashkoor A Usmani (AMUSU President) and Mohd Fahad (AMUSU Hony. Secretary) were also present.   

 Er. Shamim Ansari (University Electrical Safety Officer) conducted the programme.
