AMU resident doctor awarded best research paper at ISSPCON 2015

Aligarh, February 19:
J N Medical College’s Department of Anesthesiology Resident Doctor Aftab Hussain received the best research paper award for his research on ‘Comparative evaluation of cervical median branch block and tender point injection in patients of chronic neck pain’ during the 30th Annual National Pain Congress of Indian Society for Study of Pain (ISSPCON) 2015 at Chennai.

Dr Aftab was also awarded a cash price at the conference. His paper was selected the best out of 50 research papers presented during ISSPCON 2015. Around 500 delegates attended the conference from India, USA, Australia and other countries. The papers presented in the conference were researches on acute and chronic pain.

During the conference, the Indian Society for Study of Pain (ISSP) also placed on record the hard work of it’s senior members including Prof S Bano, Prof Shahla Haleem, Prof Abdul Quadir, Prof Moied Ahmed and Dr Hammad Usmani for the constant improvement and approved the formation of Aligarh branch of ISSP.

Dr Hammad Usmani, Associate Professor and Consultant Incharge of Pain Clinic at J N Medical College also delivered a talk on ‘Comprehensive history taking in the management of patients suffering from chronic pain’ in the conference.

In his lecture, Dr Usmani emphasized that a comprehensive history is an important step in the assessment and management of patients suffering from chronic pain. The Pain Clinic at J N Medical College has played a vital role in managing patients suffering from various chronic pain conditions including back pain, head and neck pain, joint pain, neuralgia, fibromyalgia and mesothelioma cancer pain since the last 10 years.
