AMU Pro VC Brigadier Ali releases five books during literary evening

Aligarh, March 19: Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (retd) released five books during a literary evening organised by AMU’s UGC Academic Staff College.

‘English Poems on the Prophet’ by Professor Masoodul Hasan, former Chairman Department of English, AMU; Quran mein Adaad o Shumar aur Mauzuat e Riyazi’ by Prof Ziaul Hasan, former Principal, University Polytechnic, AMU; ‘Print Culture: Sir Syed’s Aligarh Institute Gazette’ by Prof Asghar Abbas, Department of Urdu and former Director, Sir Syed Academy, AMU; ‘Rue Khushrang’ by Professor Ghazanfar Ali, Director, Urdu Academy, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and ‘God’s Creation of Human in the Best Mold’ by Dr Ahmad Muttee Siddiqi, New York (Former Lecturer Department of Surgery, AMU) were released during the literary evening.

Brigadier Ali, who attended the evening as the Chief Guest urged young AMU teachers to follow examples of the eminent Professors who continue to make exceptional scholarly contributions even after retirement.

He also honoured Padma Shree Professor Syed Zillur Rahman, former Chairman, Department of Ilmul Advia and Founder President Ibne Sina Academy, Aligarh on receiving the Yash Bharati Samman (Uttar Pradesh Government’s highest civilian award) for his selfless services in preserving the Indo Islamic Culture. Meanwhile, Prof Faseeh Ahmad Siddiqui of AMU’s Department of Chemistry was also honoured in the function.

During the Valediction of the Second Induction Course organised by the UGC ASC, AMU, Brigadier Ali also honoured its coordinator, Emeritus Prof Farhat Ullah Khan, former Chairman, Department of English, AMU.

Prof Farhat Ullah Khan later facilitated the certificate distribution. AMU Pro Vice chancellor Brigadier Ali’s wife Mrs Rizwana Ahmad Ali, who attended the evening as the Guest of Honour distributed certificates to 39 newly appointed Assistant Professors in the Faculties of Engineering and Commerce.

Around 105 University/College lecturers assembled from all over India to attend the the Orientation Programme, SRC Agricultural Sciences and Computer Applications course.

Course participants of the UGC ASC course Ms Kakoli Boruah, Assam and Dr Shabina Ghafir, New Delhi welcomed the guests.

Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Director UGC ASC, AMU applauded the authors for their academic distinctions and enlightened the audience about the content and relevance of their books.

Prof Ghazanfar Ali read out a life sketch of Urdu poet Shaharyar from his book to a mesmerised audience and Prof Saghir Afraheim, Department of Urdu, AMU gave a brief introduction of Padma Shree Prof Syed Zillur Rahman.

Dr Anwar Ahmad, Department of Commerce, AMU and Ms Huma Matloob, Architecture Section, University Women’s Polytechnic, AMU gave feedback on behalf of the Induction Course participants and said that the course helped them remove many misconceptions. They found the lectures on personality development and the past of AMU very useful.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Asst Professor, UGC ASC, AMU conducted the programme and thanked everyone.
