AMU organized the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony

Aligarh,Uttar Pradesh:
Today the School of Nursing, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony and CME on patient care. The nursing students of 2013 batch took oath for practicing nursing, providing best aid to doctors and devoting themselves for welfare of patients.

Inaugurating the colorful oath taking ceremony, Lt. Gen (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah said that nursing staff play a pivotal role in providing healthcare to ailing and injured patients both during war and in peace. He said that the tender care and comforting words of reassurance provided by nurses work as a balm to patients and help them embark on the road to recovery. Gen. Shah said that the students of nursing would not just emulate Florence Nightingale, the “founder of modern nursing” but also go a step further in providing better patient care and compassion for the poor and ailing, serving as role models for society at large.

Gen Shah said that school of nursing would be upgraded into the College of Nursing with B.Sc. and M.Sc. Nursing courses. He said that the intake of nursing school would also be increased up to 100 seats. He said that his priority is to make this Medical College not a good Medical College but also an Institute. He congratulated Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal for bringing about remarkable changes in the Medical College.

Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, JN medical College, said that nursing is one of the most noble and respected profession and nursing graduates of this institution have a responsibility to carry out their responsibilities in a dignified and humane manner. He said that the JN Medical College will submit a detailed proposal to the University Grants Commission to upgrade the School of Nursing into a full-fledged College to the, Prof Mansoor said that the nursing profession has become super specialized all over the world and same will be developed here soon. He said that JN medical College is trying to provide better, cheaper and affordable treatment to the patients. He also highlighted the role of Hazrat Rubaida and Florence Nightingale in the field of nursing.

Prof Farida Ahmad, Principal, School of Nursing, administered oath to the first year students. She said the lamp lighting is a symbol of knowledge, love, hope and service, which is the essence of nursing profession. The oath taking ceremony is the commitment of nurses to serve the humanity with vigor and compassion. Prof Ahmad presented the annual report of the school.Mrs Sabiha Simi Shah, Guest of Honour released the souvenir while Mrs Rizwana Ali and Dr Hamida Tariq felicitated the top achiever of the Nursing School.Mrs. Pamela Joseph shed light on exemplary traits laid down by Florence Nightingale and application of values in nursing education. The program was conducted by Dr Meher Rizvi, Farheen Shama and Nazia. Mrs Farha Azmi proposed the vote of thanks.Prof MH Beg, Dean Faculty of Medicine, and Prof Haris M Khan, Medical Superintendent also graced the occasion.
