AMU organized a symposium on “Dengue and Malaria: How to tackle the Menaceâ??”

The Department of Medicine, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a symposium on â??Dengue and Malaria: How to tackle the Menaceâ??, in which Doctors of Medicine and other specialties delivered their enriching views on dengue fever, malaria and their management and diagnosis.Professor S Bano, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, in her address, appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Medicine. She said that this is the right time for preparing well in advance to deal with Malaria and Dengue cases.

Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, JN Medical College called for an integrated approach to deal with such cases. He informed that the hospital administration spent substantial amount in the procurement of diagnostic kits and medicines during the outbreak of dengue and malaria last year. He assured that all facilities will be made available, if needed.

Professor MU Rabbani, Chairman, Department of Medicine, in his introductory remarks, informed that Dengue has emerged as a menace over the last few years. Referred to data released by the Ministry of Health, he said that there were less than 5000 cases of Dengue in India in 2007 which increased to more than 75,000 in 2013. He said that in North India maximum cases occur after monsoon i.e. in the months of September, October and November, while in South India the disease occurs throughout the year. He said that as per the records of JNMCH, 610 cases of Dengue were reported during the last year.

Professor Tabassum Shahab, Professor Shadab A Khan, Professor Tamkin Rabbani, Professor HS Khan, Professor SF Haque, Dr Anjum Parvez, Dr Anjum Chughtai, Dr Mohd Aslam and Dr Nasreen Noor participated in the deliberations. Professor Haris M Khan presented a report about logistics and preparation of the hospital to deal with the situation. Professor RK Tewari, Principal, Dr ZA Dental College and Dr Rahul Kulshreshtha, District Malaria Officer also attended the symposium.

 Professor MR Ajmal proposed the vote of thanks. Members of different faculties, PGs and undergraduate students of Faculty of Medicine participated in the symposium.
