Aligarh, March 7:
Dr Syed Javed Rizvi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Petroleum Studies was recently awarded with silver medal by PlastIndia Foundation, Mumbai for his PhD research work under the category of Best Performing Student (Polymer Science, Technology & Engineering). Dr Rizvi has submitted his PhD thesis in Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi under the supervision of Professor N Bhatnagar.
Dr Rizvi was awarded for work in the field of Microcellular Injection Molding Thermoplastics Foams especially for the biodegradable polymer poly-(lactic acid). He has designed and developed an “Expandable Cavity Mould” to produce the microporous thermoplastic foams. He has successfully manufactured microporous foams with thermoplastic materials like polypropylene and poly-(lactic acid).
It is expected that expandable cavity moulding technique will be able to reduce the cost of bone scaffolds, dialysis membranes, microfiltration membrane for low cost potable water filtration, dissolvable cardiovascular stent etc.Working on Microcellular Injection Molding Thermoplastics Foams since 2008, Dr Rizvi said that he will do his best to establish research facilities in Aligarh Muslim University in the upcoming areas of bio-plastics, polymers, and polymer nanocomposites.
Earlier in 2011, Dr Rizvi developed a Polymer and Composite Materials Lab in the Department of Petroleum Studies and generated the grant of Rs 31 lac in a span of four years through projects with Prof M Kamil, Chairman Deptartment of Petroleum Studies. As an Apex body of major associations, organizations and institutions in India connected with plastics, PlastIndia Foundation has instituted the ‘Plasticon Awards’ to felicitate excellence and innovation in the field of Plastics. An independent panel of jurists, who are achievers and pioneers in their respective fields, selects the winners and runners of each category. In 2015, the Plasticon Awards were given in 25 different Categories, including four categories for International Participants.
