AMU Chest Physician and Assistant Prof becomes the youngest Indian receiver of FRCP

Aligarh, April 7:

Associate Professor with the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College’s Department of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (Pulmonary Medicine), Dr Mohammad Shameem has qualified the Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), Edinburg, Scotland. He is the youngest Chest physician from India to receive this honor.

Dr Shameem will now sign for the ‘College Roll’ of Royal College of Physicians, Edinburg to provide professional support for UK educational system. He will also be invited as an external examiner to conduct MRCP (UK) exam.

Dating back to 1806, the ‘College Roll’ tradition makes the selected Fellows to sign the roll, which is in form of vellum sheets. The fellowship is the highest category of membership within the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburg (RCPE). It recognizes clinical achievement, confers international peer recognition and presents enhanced professional opportunities to contribute in standard setting and their policy influencing activities.

The tradition has famous RCPE Fellows such as James Young Simpson, discoverer of Chloroform; Sir Stanley Davidson, author of Davidson’s “Principles and Practice of Medicine”; Sir John Crofton, a pioneer of TB treatment and Queen Elizabeth II.

Dr Shameem is recipient of various other National and International fellowships. Prof Rakesh Bhargava, Chairman, Department of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (Pulmonary Medicine) and Prof Zuber Ahmad congratulated him.
