Allahabad High Court vindicates AMU VC’s appointment

ALIGARH October 16:

The Allahabad High Court has vindicated the appointment of Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah as the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. The decision, which is seen as a positive development preceding the 198th birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on October 17, was made by a division bench of Justice Dilip Gupta and Justice V.K. Mishra today.

Dismissing the writ petition filed by a former Honorary Secretary of AMU Students’ Union, Abrar Ahmad, who challenged Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah’s appointment as the Vice Chancellor of AMU in contravention of the UGC’s regulation of 2010, the High Court upheld Lt. Gen. Shah’s appointment legal as the “AMU had not adopted the UGC regulation at the time of his appointment”.
