Abhinav Prakash, a student of DAV School, Patna scored 90.2% in CBSE class 12th
examination. He scored a 95 in chemistry, 93 in mathematics, 92 in physical education, 88 in
physics and 83 in English.
The boy was diagnosed from infective endocarditis and had gone through a open heart surgery
in June 2016 at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute Research Centre in Delhi.
“It was a complicated surgery and had taken almost 8 hours to remove the mass from his valve
and replace aortic valve with the artificial one. Abhinav was hospitalized for two-and-a-half
months from June 2016,” said Prathiba, his mother.

The surgery changed Abhinav in some way, said Pratibha. “I had to take a lot precaution. Even
during exams, he was not sure that he would be able to study or give the exams as he had to
take blood thinner at several intervals. However, he appeared and proved his mettle,” she said,
reports TOI.
Abhinav aspires to be an IAS officer. He told TOI, “The credit for my success goes to my mother
who believed I could do it. She was expecting 70%, but I feel proud now. After my father’s death
in 2003, she supported and motivated me. I also thank my school principal, who allowed me to
study when most of the schools didn’t enroll me due to my condition.”
The boy has an optimistic outlook towards life. He could not qualify for JEE Advance this year
but he did not lose hope. He said, “I will drop one year and prepare for the exam.”
VS Ojha, the school principal, mentioned about the hard work put in by Abhinav’s mother who
came to school almost daily and worked hard for her son’s success. The principal salutes her.
