A NEW PHASE, A NEW BEGINNING, A NEW LIFE AT COLLEGE

The day has arrived when a fresh and enthusiastic lot of students are ready to start their much awaited college life. While many students are happy as they got the college and course too of their choice, but a lot many are disappointed as they either had to sacrifice with the course of their choice or the college. But all in all most of them are glad that they got admission in a good University.

College life is the stepping stone in our lives; it decides our future course as it is exactly from where people start executing their dreams. College life is without any doubt an integral chapter in our lives and by saying that I am not trying to convey that school life is any less, in fact school is where we grow as good students and it is in college that we become individuals. In school we are in a packed environment, so to say the exposure is not much. In college we are given the exposure we need, the spoon feeding is a thing of past now, the time arrives when we travel alone, take our own decisions, we realise the difference between right and wrong, we meet people with different temperaments and learn how exactly to handle them, all in all we end up becoming an individual who has a renowned determination to make his/her dreams come true. College sometimes seems to be a strange place with much absurd people, you suddenly feel lonely. Around this time you face a lot of problems like adjusting in new environment with new people and you look for someone whom you know, in fact there are times when you start doubting your course and your own self and as I said you realise who you are?, what you want from life?, you grow as a different person altogether.

Many students have mixed feelings about their first day of college, some are dead nervous and some are excited. YAMNI GUPTA a fresher says, “I am nervous and excited at the same time, it is different feeling altogether. I look forward to the exposure and campus fun”. While for BHANU it is only excitement, “I am not at all nervous, only excited it’s going to be a wonderful phase of my life for sure.” For MEGHA last week was hectic as she did all the preparations for her college, “I shopped for a whole year. I shopped from all the popular markets like sarojini nagar and janpath.”

As you enter a new phase, a lot of people will shower you with advices as to what to do and what not to. And for my part here are a few things to keep in mind for a good start and a smooth journey:

1) DO NOT GET NERVOUS

It is but obvious to get nervous, but all I am saying is do not let it show on your face. Be confident after all you are also knowledgeable; do not let yourself lost in the crowd.

2) CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY BUT BE SOCIAL,DO NOT RESTICT YOURSELF

When it comes to friends try not to be choosy, go with the ones who feel comfortable with and if you feel something about someone just say it, because the people you choose are going to be with you for the next three years. Also do not stop yourself from socialising, talk to everyone, form good friendships as they prove to be beneficial.

3)  DO NOT FLAUNT

It is common practice to flaunt while you are in college. But trust me flaunting your riches won’t help you; nobody cares whether you have an Audi or an R15, because at the end of three years you will be just an acquaintance and nothing more. Still if you want to flaunt, flaunt your knowledge, but that too very wisely not too much.

 4) MAKE CONTACTS WITH THE TEACHERS, AVOID ATTENDANCE ISSUES

The most important thing to keep in mind is to impress your teachers because they are the ones who are going to mark you in the internal assessment. Also try to avoid the attendance issues as much as possible, make sure you have a good attendance rate as it also carry some marks.

5) BE A PART OF ALL THE FESTS AND EVENTS

Take part in all your college fests and events as it is good for your experience and exposure plus it adds to your CV. In fact it is the actual fun of being in college.

 6) DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE POPULAR EATERIES

College life is incomplete if you don’t enjoy the delectable dishes of the popular eateries in your campus. After all bunking too is an integral part of your college life.

Just a few things to remember and you are all set for a journey full of fun, experiences and your dreams.

Good luck for a new beginning ,a new phase.
